"This is a view through a window in Cordoba. I was drawn to the subject by the interplay of shapes and volumes, which made a complex jumble of lines, tones and planes. The limited palate of purples, blues and yellows reinforce the solidity of the subject, whilst unifying all the elements, and creating the illusion of flattened space. The composition was developed from several'Window', Mixed media on canvas, 61 x 46 cm
sketches and photographs of the motif, taken during a hot August afternoon, and the painting was made in my London studio. It was painted over several months by building up layers of acrylic and then oil paint."
