Jenny Wiggins - Greenwich exhibition

If you're in Greenwich, stop by Jenny's lovely exhibition of her works at the McPherson Gallery, just a hop from river near the Cutty Sark pub.

This is an intimate light airy gallery that sets off Jenny's large works perfectly. Although it looks private it isn't - it's just that the room is cold with the door open! Brrr. So don't be shy, just ring the bell and Paul will gladly let you in.

Exhibition on through 13th December.

Physalis - Prize Winner at Discerning Eye!

The prestigeous Discerning Eye Exhibition opened on Weds 12th November at The Mall Galleries, with a very special event The Art of Still Life, where our very own Trinidad Ball gave an artist demonstration which was extremely well received.

Trinidad's painting Physalis (see right) selected by Brenda Fenton, Collector, was among many works of art to sell that evening.

The following evening Thursday 13th November was the extremely well attended Private View where John Penrose described the show as "the best ever" and various prizes were awarded. Trinidad was completely shocked and then delighted to win the MEYNELL FENTON PRIZE of £1000, for her entry Physalis.

Gill Hickman's photo Bus Stop is also on display. This was selected by artist Anita Klein.

The Exhibition has received high acclaim and continues till 23rd November. Entry is Free.

Artist websites feature: Nicolette Carter

Did you know that many of our artists also have their own websites? Since Skylark Galleries is a collectively run pair of galleries we work together to promote both the galleries and the artists themselves too!

If an artist has their own website the link will appear on their profile page from the Skylark Galleries website. It's a great way to see a lot more work from your favourite artist!

Nicolette Carter
www.nicolettecarter.com
Nicolette has a website featuring the full range of her lyrical story-like paintings. From her website: "My current work is influenced by Mughal painting. I am interested in the patterns and rhythms found in nature and architecture and how repetition and variation of themes can create lyrical and narrative properties. I have been told that my work has a dreamlike, other worldly quality."

Commissions by Sara Sherwood

Sara Sherwood finished a commission for a London home. Art that celebrates living in the city.
"I used muted colours to fit with the neutral colour palette of the clients home and included her their favourite buildings in the city. Playing with the shapes of the buildings I mixed dolphin curves with buildings and reflections with an underwater world. The abstract is called hope, I let this speak for itself. Completed and installed in August 2008. Am now painting on location in Cyprus and am working on 2 cityscapes for a private collector in New York."

Killing Time, by Kate Pelligrini

Back in April, Kate Pellegrini gave a talk about ‘Painting Space’ from the Killing Time Series. This was part of our regular Late Last Thursday event where Skylark invites the public to visit the gallery after-hours and find out a bit more about our artists.

The 'Killing Time' series, pictured here, is based on Simon Armitage's brilliant poem of the same title, commissioned by the Millennium Committee. The thousand line poem is divided into sections, which explore different aspects of man's relationship with his fellow man, and the state of civilisation at the beginning of the 21st Century. Each section of the poem revolves around a specific theme for example bullets of the Colombine School massacre transferred to flowers (‘Suburban Idyll’), the lunar eclipse of the sun (‘Any Minute Now’). The poem provided the springboard for Kate’s painterly investigations. The paintings are door sized stretched canvases, unframed, featuring impasto oil paint on a thin acrylic base.
